A Daily Check-In With Jesus: Transforming Your Mental Health Through Faith

Are You Inviting Jesus Into Your Healing Process?

When life feels overwhelming—whether from stress, anxiety, negative thoughts, or emotional exhaustion—it’s easy to slip into survival mode. We might journal, talk to a friend, or even go to therapy, but too often, we forget to do the one thing that makes the biggest difference: invite Jesus into our healing.

That’s why I created Jesus Therapy, a daily journal designed to help you check in with yourself, process emotions through Scripture, and shift your focus toward Christ. Because true healing doesn’t just come from processing our emotions—it comes from surrendering them to the One who can actually carry them.

The Daily Check-In That Changes Everything

Each day, Jesus Therapy walks you through a check-in process that helps you:

Identify your emotions – Start with a simple mood tracker and the question: How are you feeling today? Instead of brushing past your emotions, you’ll pause and acknowledge them, bringing them before God instead of carrying them alone.

➡️ Why It’s Vital: God created our emotions, and they serve as indicators, not dictators. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." When we fail to acknowledge how we’re feeling, we risk allowing unchecked emotions to control our thoughts and actions. But when we honestly name our emotions, we take the first step toward bringing them into alignment with God’s truth.

Surrender what’s weighing on you – The next step is reflecting on What are you surrendering to God today and why? Maybe it’s anxiety about the future, a painful memory, or something someone said that hurt you. This simple act of writing it down is a reminder that you don’t have to carry it alone—Jesus already has.

➡️ Why It’s Vital: Surrender is the key to peace. Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Holding onto worries and burdens can make our emotions feel heavier than they are, but surrendering them to Christ allows us to walk in the freedom He’s already given us. The more we release, the more space we make for His peace.

Recognize and replace negative thoughts – Our thoughts shape our emotions, and our emotions shape our actions. That’s why Jesus Therapy includes space to challenge the lies we believe. What negative thought are you having about yourself or your circumstances today? and What is the truth about that thought?

➡️ Why It’s Vital: Our thought life determines our reality. Proverbs 23:7 says, "For as he thinks in his heart, so is he." The enemy thrives on deception, planting lies about our worth, our identity, and our circumstances. If we don’t actively replace those lies with truth, they take root in our hearts. But when we take every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) and replace it with God’s Word, we allow truth—not deception—to shape our lives.

If you struggle with this, don’t worry—the first section of the journal includes a list of common lies we believe and the scriptural truths that counter them. God’s Word is the best weapon against self-doubt, shame, and fear.

Shift your perspective to gratitude – No matter what the day holds, there is always something to be grateful for. That’s why gratitude is an essential part of Jesus Therapy. What are you thankful for today and why? Gratitude doesn’t dismiss hardship, but it helps reframe our perspective and reminds us that God is still moving in our lives.

➡️ Why It’s Vital: Gratitude is a spiritual discipline that renews our minds. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us to “present your requests to God with thanksgiving, and the peace of God…will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Gratitude shifts our focus from what’s wrong to what’s true—God’s goodness, faithfulness, and provision. The more we practice gratitude, the more we see His hand in every aspect of our lives.

Invite Jesus into your day – Instead of just reacting to life, you’ll take a proactive approach with the simple prompt: How will I invite Jesus into my day and my challenges today? Maybe it’s meditating on a certain Scripture, pausing to pray more often, or trusting Him with a situation outside of your control.

➡️ Why It’s Vital: So often, we ask Jesus to fix our problems, but we don’t ask Him to walk with us through them. John 15:5 reminds us, "Apart from me, you can do nothing." When we invite Jesus into our day—before the stress, before the frustration, before the spiral—we allow His presence to shape our responses rather than our emotions.

Meditate on God’s Word – The journal provides a dedicated space for you to record notes from your daily Bible meditation. God speaks through His Word, and when we take time to reflect on it, we begin to see our circumstances through His truth rather than our emotions.

➡️ Why It’s Vital: The Bible isn’t just a book—it’s the living, breathing Word of God. Psalm 1:2-3 tells us that those who meditate on God’s Word "are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield fruit in season and whose leaves do not wither." Meditating on Scripture isn’t just about reading—it’s about letting His truth take root in our hearts and transform how we think, feel, and live.

Reflect and process – Finally, there’s an open space for additional reflection notes. Whether it’s a prayer, a realization, or something that stood out in Scripture, this is where you can slow down and listen for what God is teaching you through the process.

➡️ Why It’s Vital: Reflection deepens transformation. James 1:22 tells us to "be doers of the word, and not hearers only." When we take time to process what God is revealing to us—whether through emotions, surrender, gratitude, or Scripture—we move beyond surface-level faith and into true renewal. This space allows us to slow down, listen, and apply what God is speaking into our hearts.

Why This Simple Practice Can Transform Your Mental Health

Healing isn’t about ignoring emotions or pretending everything is fine—it’s about bringing everything before Jesus. Jesus Therapy helps you do that in a structured, intentional way that leads to peace.

✅ You won’t just acknowledge your feelings—you’ll surrender them.

✅ You won’t just recognize negative thoughts—you’ll replace them with truth.

✅ You won’t just read the Bible—you’ll reflect on it and apply it to your struggles.

✅ You won’t just talk about faith—you’ll actively invite Jesus into your healing journey.

If you’ve been feeling stuck in your emotions, overwhelmed by stress, or distant from God in your mental health journey, this is your invitation to something different.

Let Jesus be the foundation of your healing. Take it one day at a time, one check-in at a time. Because when you make space for Him, He brings the peace you’ve been searching for.
